Why Choose a Bar Height Patio Set with Fire Pit?
A bar height patio set with fire pit is more than just outdoor furniture—it's a centerpiece for memorable gatherings. The elevated seating creates a casual, pub-like atmosphere that encourages mingling, while the integrated fire pit provides warmth and ambiance for cool evenings. Whether you're hosting a weekend barbecue or enjoying a quiet night under the stars, this versatile set transforms your patio into a year-round destination.
These sets typically include a high-top table (around 36–42 inches tall) with a built-in gas or propane fire pit in the center, accompanied by 4 to 6 bar-height stools or chairs. The combination of style, function, and comfort makes them one of the most sought-after outdoor furniture categories today.
What to Look For: Key Considerations
Before you buy, it's important to evaluate a few critical factors. The right set will depend on your space, climate, and entertaining style. Here are the most important aspects to consider:
1. Material & Durability
The frame material determines longevity and maintenance. Wicker/rattan offers a classic, warm look but requires weather-resistant resin for outdoor use. Aluminum is lightweight, rust-proof, and ideal for coastal areas. Steel is heavier and more stable but needs a durable powder-coated finish to prevent rust. For the tabletop, opt for tempered glass or ceramic tile—both are heat-resistant and easy to clean.
2. Fire Pit Type: Propane vs. Natural Gas
Most bar-height sets come with a propane tank hidden inside the table base. Propane offers portability and easy setup. Natural gas requires a professional hookup but eliminates the need for tank refills. Consider your patio layout and local gas availability before deciding.
3. Seating Capacity & Comfort
Sets typically seat 4 to 6 people. Measure your space to ensure there's at least 24 inches of clearance per seat. Look for chairs with comfortable cushions and back support—bar-height stools can feel less inviting without proper ergonomics. Some sets offer swivel stools for added flexibility.
4. Safety Features
Prioritize sets with a CSA-certified fire pit, a safety shut-off valve, and a sturdy base to prevent tipping. A glass wind guard around the flame not only adds elegance but also protects against gusts. Always keep the fire pit cover handy when not in use.

Coastal Nautical: Light-colored wicker with a driftwood finish, complemented by blue or white cushions. Ideal for beach houses or poolside retreats. Look for corrosion-resistant materials.
Bohemian Oasis: Mixed materials like rattan and teak, often with colorful, patterned cushions. The fire pit becomes a decorative centerpiece with colorful fire glass.

Sizing and Placement Tips
Proper sizing ensures comfort and safety. The table should be at least 48 inches in diameter to comfortably seat four people with bar-height stools. For six, opt for 54–60 inches. Allow 36 inches of clearance around the set for easy movement and to prevent heat damage to nearby structures.
Placement: Position the set on a flat, level surface away from overhanging trees or awnings. A concrete or stone patio is ideal, but a sturdy deck works too (ensure it can support the weight). Always keep a fire extinguisher nearby and never leave the fire pit unattended.
If you're working with a smaller area, consider a small dining table for 4 with bench or a 3-piece patio set for small space for a more intimate setup.

To keep your bar height patio set with fire pit looking great and functioning safely, follow these simple steps:
- Clean the tabletop with a mild soap and water solution weekly to remove dust and debris.
- Cover the fire pit when not in use to protect it from rain and insects. Use a manufacturer-recommended cover.
- Check gas connections regularly for leaks. Apply soapy water to the connection points—bubbles indicate a leak.

- Inspect the frame for rust or wear, especially if you live in a humid or coastal climate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are bar height fire pit sets safe for children?
Yes, the elevated design naturally keeps the flame higher and further from small children and pets compared to ground-level fire pits. However, adult supervision is always recommended, and the set should be placed on a stable, non-flammable surface.
Can I use the fire pit without the chairs?
Absolutely. The fire pit table can function as a standalone outdoor heater or as a cocktail table for standing guests. This flexibility makes it a great investment for various occasions.
What kind of fire glass or lava rock should I use?
Most sets come with lava rock or glass beads. Fire glass offers a more modern, sparkling look and is available in many colors. Lava rock provides a more natural, rustic appearance. Both are safe and durable.
How long does a propane tank last?
A standard 20-pound propane tank (the type used for grills) typically lasts 3–5 hours on high heat, or up to 10 hours on low. It's wise to keep a spare tank on hand for longer gatherings.
